Natural Interface

Natural Interface

Natural User Interface “is one that enables people to interact with a computer in the same ways they interact with the physical world, through using their voice, hands, and bodies. Instead of using a keyboard and a mouse (as is the case with GUIs), a natural user interface allows users to speak to machines, stroke their surfaces, gesture at them in the air, dance on mats that detect feet movements, smile at them to get a reaction, and so on”(Preece, Yvonne, & Sharp, 2015, p.188)

Reflection on the Topic

1.      Natural interface is the way of people can control and interact with computers or virtual products using their normal gestures. The systems are built to sense the actions, like jumping, waving, etc. and make actions according to actions as programmed.
2.      “Natural User Interface (NUI), a more natural way for people to interact with technology. NUI refers to both sensory inputs such as touch, speech and gesture but goes much further to describe computing that is intelligent and contextually aware, with the ability to recognize a person’s face, environment and intent, even emotions and relationships.”(Kaushik & Jain, 2014)

My Thought

“True revolution in data-input methods will come when we move from GUI (graphic user interfaces) to NUI (natural user interfaces), from mouse and keyboard to speech and gesture” (Kaushik & Jain, 2014)
“Sometimes a gesture is worth a thousand words. Other times, a word is worth a thousand gestures.”(Preece et al., 2015, p.188)
