Expressive Interface
Expressive Interface
“Expressive
forms like emoticons, sounds, icons, and virtual agents have been used at the
interface to (i) convey emotional states and/or (ii) elicit certain kinds of
emotional responses in users, such as feeling at ease, comfort, and happiness.”(Preece, Yvonne, & Sharp, 2015)
Reflection on the Topic
1. Expressive interface can be
understood as using expression of human like smiling, angry, sad face, etc. and
make them into designs that can communicate back with users when using
products.
2. “An expressive control interface
system that enables users to author and control a 3D virtual avatar and its
motion is needed. The present research is motivated by this need for an
intelligent, dynamic, and user-intuitive gesture interface system with
expressive control that uses gesture variation for continuous interaction” (Shashidhar Patil, Harinadha Reddy Chintalapalli, Dubeom
Kim, & Youngho Chai, 2015)

Using emoji to make conversation over phone or text become more
human-like.
My Thought
“something between being techno-like and
human-like” (Preece et al., 2015)
“the aesthetics of an interface can have a
positive effect on people's perception of the system's usability (e.g.
Tractinsky, 1997). When the look and feel of an interface is pleasing and
pleasurable” (Preece et al., 2015)
